Identity

Set the field Leadpush uses to uniquely identify contacts inside a workspace.

Overview

The contact identity is the field Leadpush uses to uniquely identify each contact in a workspace. It acts as the primary identifier that distinguishes one contact from another.

Common identity choices include:

  • email
  • phone
  • an external id

Use this setting when you need to define how contacts should be matched and identified inside a specific workspace.

Before you start

  • Open the correct workspace before changing identity, since the setting is workspace-specific.
  • Only fields with a text or integer datatype can be selected as the identity field.
  • first_name and last_name are not valid identity fields.
  • If the workspace already has contacts, changing identity is disabled until all contacts have been removed.

Choose an identity field carefully. It should be stable and unique for each contact in the workspace.

Open Identity settings in the dashboard

Open your workspace

Go to the Dashboard and switch into the workspace you want to manage.

Open Settings

Use the main navigation to open Settings.

Go to Identity

Open Identity from the workspace settings.

Change the identity field

Review the current identity

On the Identity page, review the current Identity Field value.

Open the field selector

Use the Identity Field dropdown to see the available options.

Choose an eligible field

Select the field you want Leadpush to use as the unique contact identifier. Only text and integer fields are allowed.

Save the change

Click Save to update the workspace identity setting.

Confirm the update

After a successful save, the workspace will use the new field as its contact identity.

Pick the right identity

In most workspaces, the right choice is the field your systems can keep both unique and consistent over time.

  • Use email when email address is the main identifier and each contact has one stable address.
  • Use phone when phone number is the primary identifier for the workspace.
  • Use an external id when your application already manages a unique customer or user identifier.
